Caring for crystals isn’t difficult but it is wise to do it properly.

While they can appear quite sturdy a lot of them are actually quite fragile.

If you have a crystal that is layered or maybe a cluster of crystals these can actually separate.

Some crystals are water soluble – such as Selenite

Crystals that have been polished or have natural points can also be easily scratched and damaged.

Tumbled crystals are quite sturdy.

After all, they’ve been turned for hours on end with a fine grit so it toughens up their surface.

Tumbled stones can be put together in a bag and they should be alright.

However, it would be best if your other crystals were kept separately.

How should I store my crystals?

Well, as mentioned tumbled crystals can be kept together in a bag.

When you’re not using them, it’s best if you wrap them in a silk or linen scarf.

By doing this, you’re not only protecting them from being damaged, but from absorbing other energies.

Personally, I like to use natural fibers with natural stones, if you want to use velvet etc. go for it.

Crystals need to be cleansed.

When you purchase your crystals before using / wearing it make sure you cleanse it.

Always cleanse jewelry that has been given to you by someone else.

You don’t want to absorb their negative energies!!

Some that don’t need cleansing.

Did you know that Citrine, Kyanite and Azeztulite are self-cleaning?

Clear Quartz and Carnelian can actually cleanse other crystals which is really useful when you have delicate stone.

All you need to do is put for example, a carnelian in with your other stone and it will do the work for you.

They will however, need to be cleansed themselves after being used to cleanse another crystal.

How do I cleanse my crystal?

You need to know if your crystal is delicate because it does depend on the crystal as to what you do to cleanse it.

If it’s sturdy, then it can be immersed in sea or salt water – not too much salt though!  That can have a detrimental effect on the stones energy.

As always, I like natural methods rather than throwing some salt in water …

If doing this method, please make sure you really rinse the salt off!

You can also hold the crystal under running water with the intention that all negativity be washed away.

Also, put out the intention that it be re-energized.

Sunshine and moonlight

You can place your crystal in sunlight – again just make sure your crystal isn’t going to fade!

Also, be careful that your crystal sitting in the sun isn’t going to light a fire!

I like to put mine out under a full moon energy, even if it’s a cloudy night the cleansing energy will still clean and re-energize the stones.

Crystals aren’t just healing stones, they’re also beautiful and when you look after them, they’ll serve you for many years.
