Shadow work, have you heard that term but wondered what exactly it is?

First up, I’m not talking about that thing caused by the sun when we stand in it!

I’m talking about our spiritual shadow and the work to understand it and work with it.

Shadow work

Our Shadow is the parts of ourselves that we hide or that we don’t like.

To understand what I’m talking about a couple of examples of aspects of our shadow are things like, being selfish, self-centered, arrogant and our fears.

These aspects then lead to certain behaviours such as you find yourself criticizing others who have your flaws.

Maybe you judge people when it’s not fair to do so.

Some people always play being the victim.

The problem is that those negative aspects can affect your life in a big way.

When you keep your shadow self hidden, it can have a flow on affect such as:

Addictions

Uncontrollable rage/anger

Social anxiety

Obsessive/compulsive disorders

Depression

Self-sabotage

When people talk about Shadow Work it means that you go through a process of exploring these hidden aspects of ourselves.

Before you try and get in there and explore this, the first thing you need to do is acknowledge your shadow.

Then you need to embrace it and become friends with it.

Because while these shadow aspects are hidden you can’t work with them.

You need to be open about them, bring them to the surface of your life so that you can then start to live a life that is authentic to you.

When you understand these aspects of yourself and work with them, you discover your own personal inner wisdom.

You understand your life purpose.

And then you’ll be able to access your Soul or if you like, your Higher Self.
