We seem to be a society that has become jaded. We now live in a world that promotes overnight delivery, express checkout lines, 24-hour customer service, airplanes, carpool lanes, instant rebates, instant messaging, instant coffee and 24-hour contact with people via Facebook, Instagram, Pintrest and emails, we don’t turn off.
With all of this we are constantly being encouraged to expect what we want, how we want it, and to expect it right away, we have now become conditioned to move quickly, multitask, speed-read, and drive-through.
The problem with all of this fast and constant onslaught of ‘stuff’ is that if we don’t balance all of that by slowing down every once in a while, then we leave no room in our lives for learning patience, tolerance, listening, or conscious breathing.
So, go and sit on your front veranda with a cup of tea, or perhaps go for a leisurely walk without rushing to get it over-with, or read a good book and pause between paragraphs to digest the ideas presented, when you eat a meal put your knife and fork down between each mouthful until you have finished chewing and swallowing and savour the tastes in your mouth.
