I was watching the TV program Sunday Night last night, funnily enough it was also Sunday Night! And they had some interesting stories on.
One was about a shanty village built on a rubbish tip in Paraguay and how a man makes musical instrument from the rubbish and then another man started to teach the kids to play these instruments so now they have a proper orchestra that has played with Metallica!
The second story was about an Australian family with 11 kids and how they travel around Australia – he is a qualified refrigeration mechanic and gets work in the towns they visit, mum teaches the kids and they can all read, write and add up. And they just so loved life.
The third story was a multi-millionaire and his wife who have been building the biggest house in the world. It’s huge. It’s obnoxious (my opinion) and they live in a suburb where everyone tries to have bigger and better than everyone else. The story showed how all the wife wanted was more clothes, to shop, shop, shop and have bigger and better than anyone else.
All I could think when watching that story was those kids living in a dump in Paraguay and how these people had more money than they and all the members of their family need.
Why is it that when a photo goes on the front page of Forbes magazine of the richest person in the world, someone who hordes more money than they will ever need that everyone thinks he / she is amazing, a marvel, someone to look up to. Yet, when a person is on the news living in a house filled with stuff that they have collected, rubbish, things that they have hoarded they are classed as having a mental illness?
I would rather be the Australians in the bus or even the kids in the rubbish tip, compared to the American multi-billionaire. Why? Because they were happy, those kids played with rubbish and were laughing and happy, the family driving around in the bus said that they felt that they were wealthier than Gina Reinhart (one of Australia’s richest people) and you know what?
I agree with them.
They are happy with what they have, they aren’t competing with anyone else, they are making the best of what they have and that’s what it’s all about. Then not constantly working huge hours to continually buy more stuff, they work enough to feed and clothe the family and the rest of the time they chill out and relax and travel.
Have you ever asked yourself ‘How do I set priorities? Hopefully this helps you understand. So, what is YOUR priority?
